Hollywood Burbank Airport's New Terminal: Everything Travelers Need to Know
The new Hollywood Burbank terminal is open — and the entrance is not where it used to be. What changed on October 13, 2026, how pickup and drop-off work now, and what it means for your next BUR arrival.

After more than a decade of planning and a $1.3 billion construction program, Hollywood Burbank Airport's replacement passenger terminal opened to travelers on October 13, 2026. The new 355,000-square-foot facility replaces the original terminal building, which dated to 1930 and sat too close to the runways by modern safety standards.
For the millions of travelers who choose BUR precisely because it is the easy alternative to LAX, the essentials are unchanged: the same 14 gates, the same short walks, the same calm. But the details that matter on arrival day — where you enter, where you claim bags, where your car meets you — have all moved. This guide covers what is new, verified against the airport's own announcements.
What actually changed on October 13, 2026
The new terminal is larger — 355,000 square feet against the old building's 232,000 — while keeping the same 14 gates. The space went where passengers feel it most: a single central security checkpoint instead of the old split checkpoints, an indoor baggage claim (the old one was famously outdoors), and new dining and retail throughout.
The project was approved by Burbank voters through Measure B in 2016 and built by the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority. The old terminal's fate — demolition or partial reuse — is a separate process, but it no longer serves passengers.
The entrance moved: Winona Avenue and Hollywood Way
This is the change that will catch returning travelers. The main terminal entrance is no longer on Thornton Avenue. Vehicle access to the new terminal runs through the intersection of Winona Avenue and Hollywood Way, on the northeast side of the airfield.
If you are driving yourself, being dropped off, or directing a car service, update any saved directions — navigation apps have been updated, but a driver working from habit or an old saved pin will take you to the wrong side of the airport. Our chauffeurs transitioned to the new access roads on opening day.
Pickup and drop-off at the new terminal
Departures are straightforward: curbside drop-off at the new terminal entrance, then the central security checkpoint inside. Arrivals now end at the indoor baggage claim, and ground transportation is organized outside it.
The airport's ground transportation setup continues to include the Regional Intermodal Transportation Center (RITC) for rental cars, designated pickup areas for taxis, door-to-door shuttles and app-based rides, and complimentary hotel shuttles. Because the layout is new, the single most reliable habit is to confirm your exact pickup point with your driver before you walk out — signage and traffic flow around a brand-new terminal are still settling into their final patterns.
For pre-arranged chauffeur service, the process stays simple: your chauffeur tracks your flight, stages at the authorized area for commercial vehicles, and confirms the meeting point by text as you land. If you prefer, a meet & greet inside baggage claim removes the coordination entirely.
What the new terminal means for chauffeured transportation
A new terminal means new curb geometry, new traffic patterns and new enforcement routines — the exact conditions under which improvised pickup plans fail. Commercial vehicles, including permitted black car and limousine operators, work from designated areas, and those areas are specific to the new layout.
The practical advice for the first months of the new terminal: book airport transportation with an operator that runs BUR regularly, share your flight number so tracking is automatic, and treat the texted pickup point as the plan rather than a landmark you remember from the old terminal. If anything changes on the day — a shifted curb, a closed lane — a professional dispatcher absorbs it before you ever see it.
Why travelers book a private SUV at Burbank
BUR's appeal has always been time: short walks, fast security, quick escapes. A pre-arranged executive SUV extends that same logic to the curb — no rental car shuttle to the RITC, no rideshare queue, no surge pricing after a delayed evening arrival.
It is the natural choice for studio and production schedules in Burbank and Universal City, for executives heading to meetings across the Valley, Hollywood or Pasadena, and for families who want the easiest airport in Los Angeles to end with the easiest possible exit.
- Flight tracking included — the pickup adjusts to early, delayed and diverted flights automatically.
- Meet & greet inside the new indoor baggage claim, or a fast curbside meet for carry-on travelers.
- Fixed, confirmed pricing — no surge, no queue, no negotiation at the curb.
- Black 2026 Cadillac Escalade ESV SUVs and executive sedans, commercially insured and airport-permitted.
