Los Angeles Is an Events City: Getting Around Concerts, Conventions and Big Dates

The Los Angeles Convention Center alone averages 200 events a year. Add SoFi Stadium, Crypto.com Arena and the Hollywood Bowl, and getting around on event days becomes its own skill. Here is how to plan it.

Los Angeles is one of the busiest event cities in the United States. The Los Angeles Convention Center alone hosts an average of 200 events a year and attracts more than 2 million visitors — and that is before adding the stadium concerts, arena games, award shows, festivals and private industry events spread across the city.

For a visitor, that is great news for entertainment and terrible news for logistics. Event days reshape traffic for miles around a venue, hotel rooms and ride availability spike, and arrival times that looked easy on a map stop being easy in practice. This guide covers the venues that anchor the calendar, what big event days actually do to traffic, and how to plan transportation so the event is the only thing you have to think about.

The venues that anchor the LA event calendar

A handful of venues carry most of the city's large-scale events, and knowing which one you are going to tells you a lot about traffic, parking and timing.

  • Los Angeles Convention Center (Downtown) — trade shows, conventions and consumer expos like LA Comic Con; the venue averages about 200 events a year.
  • SoFi Stadium (Inglewood) — NFL football and stadium-scale concerts; event nights redraw traffic across the Westside and Inglewood.
  • Crypto.com Arena & Peacock Theater (Downtown) — NBA, NHL and major concerts, sharing a single Downtown district that also hosts the Convention Center.
  • Hollywood Bowl (Hollywood) — season concerts under the shell; arrival is structured around park-and-ride lots and tight drop-offs.
  • Intuit Dome (Inglewood) — the Clippers' arena and a growing concert venue, next to the SoFi corridor.
  • LA Memorial Coliseum (Exposition Park) — college football and large one-off events.

What a big event day does to traffic

An event does not just add congestion near the venue — it changes the character of the whole evening. Pre-event surges start hours before doors: hotel corridors, airport approaches and the freeways feeding the venue fill up early. Post-event, tens of thousands of people leave at the same time, and rideshare demand outstrips supply exactly when everyone wants a car.

This is the same pattern covered in our Los Angeles freeway rush hour guide, only concentrated and with a hard deadline. Two practical consequences follow: first, budget extra time for any crossing that passes near a venue on an event night. Second, arrange the return trip before the event starts — after a stadium show, the person who pre-booked a pickup leaves the parking area while everyone else is still waiting in a digital queue.

Planning transportation for an LA event

The planning for an event day is mostly about removing decisions from the evening itself. What we recommend:

  • Book 3–7 days ahead for major events — same-day requests collide with demand spikes and venue traffic planning.
  • For out-of-town guests, start with the airport: a flight-tracked LAX pickup removes the riskiest leg.
  • Build the itinerary hotel-to-venue-to-hotel in one plan, not as separate rides booked on the fly.
  • For groups, a single van or Sprinter beats three cars arriving separately and struggling to park.
  • Set the post-event pickup away from the densest exit — an experienced chauffeur stages in a spot that beats the crowd.
  • Hourly service works well for convention days and multi-stop programs where the schedule moves.

What's on the Los Angeles calendar right now

Event dates change every season, which is why we keep a live Los Angeles events page with the dates we are currently covering. As this guide is published, the calendar includes Bruno Mars at SoFi Stadium (October 2, 3, 6 and 7), the NAHSE Annual Educational Conference at The Westin Bonaventure (October 7–9), LA Tech Week across the Westside (October 12–18), LA Comic Con at the Convention Center (October 30–November 1) and Usher & Chris Brown at SoFi Stadium (November 15–16).

Each event on our events page has its own page with venue details, timing suggestions and booking links — including conference transportation and stadium concert transportation. If you are planning a trip around a convention, our corporate transportation team handles multi-day programs with consolidated invoicing.

The short version
